New Year's Resolution - The Right One

Let's not talk about why we cannot follow up with the resolutions we make every year or why most of us have given up and stopped making them. Let's first see if we are making the right resolutions this year.

Ask yourself, "What is your new year's resolution?" Now ask another question "Does this resolution revolve around materialistic matter?" Will you be stuck if I asked you to have a resolution that won't cost a penny? That means, you can’t say traveling around more, or exploring more cuisines. No staying fit by hitting the gym or finally buying those pretty shoes or even that promotion you are eagerly waiting for. Now ask yourself, “What is your new year’s resolution?”

Stuck already? How about talking to you parents for 5 more minutes every day? How about spending some more time with your family? How about visiting an NGO and finally making that donation? How about volunteering to teach orphans? How about adopting a helpless puppy? How about a gossip free year? Oh! That reminds me, how about minding your own business?

You can raise money enough to climb the Everest but you cannot raise enough to hire a man who will mind his own business in this world.

Maybe that is why happiness is rare these days. The sooner you understand that you cannot, or rather, you should not find happiness in materialistic things, the sooner you will realize what REAL happiness means. This world has no bribe to offer that will temp a wise human. Be that human.

Let’s contribute to this community in an intellectual way. For new year’s resolution was first made 4000 years ago. I am sure they didn’t have a resolution to color their hair red or buy a bigger house and live in the suburbs. If they can resolve to change and improve themselves, so can we, so can this world. Go ahead, make that selflessly good new year’s resolution. It’s never too late.
