I used to read, even as a child. My grandparents were the ones who introduced me to the world of fairy tales and story books. Out of all the moral of the stories, one of it, keeps ringing in my head. I don't remember the story title, but I do remember the gist of it. Basically, a wise king keeps reminding himself that the current situation isn't permanent. "This is not going to last", he says when he is stuck in a war. "This is not going to last", he says when his kingdom welcomes him after the war. (Have you read this story in your childhood? Let me know in the comments down below)
This poem, "The Last Flakes of Snow" is about the temporariness of everything in our lives. Hope you enjoy.
"The Last Flakes of Snow"
The snow is gone,
You are too
I'd be gone if I were you.
But here I am
Waiting
For the grass to grow
For the flowers to show.
Today, the leaves are gone,
I am too
You'd be gone if you weren't you
But here you are
Looking through
The wintry dawn
As the first snowflake
Kisses your doorstep
You count the second and the third.
Shut the door!
Realizing there are many more,
Many more,
And then some more
Travelling from the bleak landscape.
The sun is gone,
You are too
I'd be gone if I were you
But I wait
For the last flake of this snow
Until I know
"There are many more gloomy dawns,
Many more glowing lawns".
